PCT: Days 93-98

We end up taking 5 days off in Portland to recharge and prepare for getting back on trail. The kids play with Logan and Madison and a revolving list of other friends and thoroughly enjoy the time off. Our dog Kaia was very happy to see us for the first time in three months and didn’t leave our sides the entire time. Blue Lizard and I do pretty much nothing the first two days which is a very welcome change from solving constant logistical problems. I looked at knocking off some nearby sections of the PCT, but Oregon and Washington had big snow years and the only clear options are long day hikes with a lot of driving on either end.

I decided not to hike, and we instead focus on prepping resupply boxes for upcoming sections. We forgot just how time consuming this is, but manage to pack most of the food for Washington. If this seems out of order that’s because it is. We’re planning on jumping to Washington at the end of July rather than rolling the dice on September weather which can turn to snow early. After Washington, the plan is to pick up wherever we left off and continue to the Washington border.

We make the decision to head back to the Sierra to pick up where we left off. The snow reports have improved for Glen, Mather, and Muir Passes, and it looks like we’ll have little if any dangerous snow. We say goodbye to friends and drive back to Bishop where we’ve arranged to leave our van with a trail angel while we hike the next stretch.

  1. Glad you are headed back out on the trail! We want to send another box out but need when and where to send it.

    1. Give me about a week to figure that out. We’re juggling some issues and haven’t exactly figured out where we’ll be next, but we will be on trail.

  2. Hudson, Quinn, and I were up at Victory Pints earlier in the week thinking of you. Gaming hasn’t been the same without you but we’ve enjoyed following your adventure and are amazed at all you have accomplished!

  3. Going to be in North Cascades and Mt Ranier in late August. Doing a Seattle and surrounding national parks trip. Thought I’d beat you there by a month but now we may be close to crossing paths!
