PCT: Day 89

Today’s travel goes well. We get an Uber around 9 and are at Sierra City by 10:30. We get breakfast at Red Moose Cafe and Inn and hit the trail around noon. We have a 1.5 mile road walk to the trailhead but get a hitch about halfway through the walk. Once on trail we’re in a pine forest with loads of shade and a nice breeze. We come across a rattlesnake within the first quarter mile and another one maybe a half mile later. Luckily both are off trail, but it’s an early reminder that they don’t just live in the desert.

The trail switchbacks up through the trees for a few miles before coming out along a treeless hillside for the next few miles. We end the day going back into trees and descending to Upper Tamarack Lake for camp. There were a couple minor patches of snow to cross, but nothing even remotely difficult.
