PCT: Day 80

The trail today is going to be mostly uphill. We reach the top of the initial climb around lunch and stop for lunch with big views of Owen’s Valley several thousand feet below us. We’ve been getting flyovers from military fighter jets most of the morning and have a couple come by straight overhead close enough to see the pilots. We talked to another hiker who saw the pilot wave on the way over. They definitely interfere with feeling like we’re in the wilderness but are still pretty cool to see up close. We end the day with a final steep climb to a campsite on a ridge near spring.

  1. What planes, or can you share pictures? I was expecting this more when you were right next to Edwards or China Lake. Maybe they like flying north along the range.

    1. I unfortunately didn’t get any pictures as they came up on us too quickly in the tree cover. We saw a few just north of China Lake but they were too high to ID. Oddly enough I don’t remember any as we skirted past Edwards
