PCT: Day 52

This is starting to sound redundant, but we got up early to beat the heat and were on the trail before it was light, covering a couple miles before the sun came up.  Bat Boy took the lead this morning, moving at a pace that was hard to keep up with.  A little further along we passed the 500 mile mark which was kind of surreal.  The days start to blend together at some point and it doesn’t feel at all like we’re approaching the two month mark.

We push on to the top of a climb before lunch, stopping on gentle, tree covered hills that look more like the Ohio or Kentucky landscapes we walk at home.  The only exception being the Mojave Desert we can see in the valleyown in the distance.  Our plan is to stop just short of Hiker Town tonight which will stage us for what will be a night hike across a corner of the Mojave.

We leave lunch with a mostly downhill hike in front of us, but after the bulk of the descent it’s too hot to continue through the afternoon.  We find a shaded campsite and rest for a couple hours, moving on a little after 4pm.  The next couple miles are still hot and miserable, but we eventually get to the shaded side of the hills and cruise the rest of the way to camp where General is waiting for us.  We start to setup to cowboy camp when bugs invade camp, forcing us to setup tents again.

  1. Congrads! 500 miles is huge! And you are almost at Hiker Town. Your box has been waiting for a month. Hope you find it. Did Blue Lizard get her e-mail surprise on Mom’s Day? English pennies still secure?
