PCT: Days 37-38

We woke early and tired after our second night in a row of poor sleep. The wind was blowing just as hard as it was last night, and we packed as quickly as we could. The 5 mile hike out felt great on the wind protected side of the hills, but unfortunately most of the trail wasn’t on that side. We got blasted by winds which on several occasions blew us off the trail. Luckily the wind was blowing uphill so we weren’t at risk of taking any unplanned rapid descents.

We made to Highway 2 mid-morning and within a few minutes caught a ride into town with Blue. He and Brian were making round trips to and from town getting hikers on and off trail. Three of us were in need of new shoes and were trying to figure out how to get to the REI 40 minutes away. We ran into Brian after getting dropped off and asked if he knew anyone we could pay to drive us. He volunteered to drive us and refused to let us pay him. He told us to go eat breakfast and let him know when we were ready.

We headed over the the Evergreen Cafe where we ran into Jeopardy and Wanderlox again. They gave us a recommendation for lodging as we weren’t sure where we were going to stay yet. We ended up booking a suite at the same place they stayed. After a huge breakfast we met up with Brian to head to REI. We did our grocery shopping when we got back from REI and then checked into our room. We relaxed the rest of the day and the next day.
