PCT: Day 24

Today was an easy 11 mile hike towards Big Bear for our next zero.  The morning started off cold for the first couple miles until we got out of the shade, but the day stayed cool and comfortable until we got to our stopping point at Highway 18.  The hike was easy compared to the last few days and passed in and out of pine stands most of the way.  Somewhere in the middle we passed the 200 mile mark.

We planned on staying at Kenny’s Place in Big Bear, but didn’t put much time into researching what we were getting into.  Kenny picked us up from the trail and drove us to his house.  We immediately knew we made a great decision.  There were 12 other hikers staying there that night, at least a couple of which we’d met previously.  We took showers, got setup in a private bedroom, and relaxed while the kids played on the playset in the backyard and played Battleship with WaterBoy, the other Waterboy, who happened to be there too.

Once dinnertime rolled around Kenny shuttled everyone to an evening of line dancing and dinner at Wyatt’s in Big Bear Lake.  We ate a ton of food, Blue Lizard and Rockhopper tried line dancing, and we got to know our fellow hikers a little better.  Kenny shuttled everyone back to his house at the end of the evening, and we went to bed full and happy.

Kenny had been an amazing host already and would continued to amaze us with his generosity and energy over the next couple days.  And yes, I said the next couple days. More to come on that later.
