PCT: Day 23

Today started off with a chilly 1 mile hike to the water source we were hoping to get to the night before. We loaded up water for what I think has set the record for water carries so far at over 16 miles. Our plan for the day was to go about 15 miles to shorten tomorrow’s hike into Big Bear for a zero. There were a few decent climbs to tackle, but they were broken up by a downhill stretches.

We made much better time than yesterday and had a pretty enjoyable day. We took a lunch break with incredible views all the way back to Mt. San Jacinto. We skipped the siesta today, taking advantage of cooler weather, and pushed on through the afternoon.

Somewhere along the way after lunch we ran into the other WaterBoy on trail this year. We had last seen him briefly in Julian. While my trail name comes from keeping the four of us hydrated, his comes from a much larger goal of providing clean water for those who lack access to it. I encourage you to visit his website and consider donating to a worthy cause.

Sometime around 4pm we stopped for dinner so we could roll into camp late, set up tents, and go straight to bed. We made good time and were at camp well before dark after completing our longest day yet.
