PCT: Day 20

We started today planning on a late start while Bat Boy and Rockhopper played with the other kids at camp.  We set off round 9:30, and even though the trail was easy, everyone seemed to be struggling a bit.  The kids were especially sad to be on trail again after just having made friends the evening before.

We ran into the other families two miles into the hike and the kids immediately started playing again.  After some discussion, mainly convincing Blue Lizard that walking two miles the wrong way wasn’t that bad, we decided to head back to the park for another night so the kids could play with their new friends.  This was the first time on the trip the kids got to do real kid stuff with others and we wanted to make sure they had some fun of their choosing after all of the miles we’ve had them walk.  Morale improved instantly and the kids hiked the fastest two miles of the trip back to the park.

Back at the park the kids headed straight to the wading pool to find the other kids and played the rest of the day.  Blue Lizard and I soaked our feet in the wading pool and relaxed the rest of the afternoon.  We caught up some more with Lucky Charm who had also decided to stay for the day.

Once dinner time rolled around we met up with the other families who had very generously offered to give us some extra food to get us through the added day. We ate with them and then visited around their campfire until bedtime.  Their generosity was incredible and is the highlight of the trail magic we’ve received along the way.  I want to give a big thank you to Eric, Nathan, Chuey, and everyone else whose names I can’t remember.
