PCT: Days 1-3

And we’re off!  Our first day was a quick round trip walk to the Southern Terminus from CLEEF.  We returned to CLEEF for the night and enjoyed tacos made by Legend and Dodger, visited with others starting the next day, and the kids played chess.

We covered almost 11 miles on day 2, our first full day on trail, with a beautiful hike through mostly dry hills. It was a welcome change to all of the flat and muddy Ohio trails we trained on over the winter. We rolled into a ridgetop campsite around 5pm, ate dinner, and were treated to a pretty awesome sunset before calling it an early night.

We started day 3 early to avoid doing our largest climb yet in the afternoon heat.  We made it to Lake Morena around 1 and gorged ourselves on cheeseburgers and ice cream. After that we headed to camp and enjoyed some more trail magic and a relaxing evening. We started getting to know our fellow hikers better and have had a blast getting to know everyone.

  2. What a great start! Only 2, 647 miles to go? You got this! I bet you have some great dark skies at night for stargazing.

    1. We lucked out and had a good water source 4.5 miles in so only had to carry 15 miles worth. We overcarried and probably had a couple liters extra.
