Pacific Crest Trail

The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a 2,650 mile hiking trail which runs from Campo, CA at the Mexican border to the woods of northern Washington where it ends at the Canadian border. Angela and I have always been interested in doing a long distance thru hike, and in the Spring of 2021 decided that 2022 would be the year to do it. Gareth and Gavin agreed after a little bit of bartering, and Andrew got an approved leave of absence from work to hike for 6 months.

For most of the rest of 2021 we worked on upgrading and dialing in gear and getting more backpacking experience to identify issues that will surely arise on trail. We started laying out re-supply plans and testing meals for the trail. On November 9 we logged onto the permit portal to try to secure a permit for the trail. After a nerve-wracking hour and a half we had permits and even got our hoped for start date. Since then we’ve been mostly focused on preparing food, finalizing gear purchases, and staying healthy and in shape.

Assuming things go well and we’re able to hike without too many issues, we’re hoping to complete the trail within the first half of September.
