PCT: Days 104-105

This stretch of zeros started off with Christina driving our van to us and then recommending somewhere to camp. She rode with us while we headed to a couple campgrounds near Mammoth Lakes, eventually finding a site at the Lake George campground.  We never would have found the site, let alone the campground, without Christina's... PCT: Day 103

Taxi... bus...Yosemite...bus...hotel...sleep. That was pretty much what we did today.  We jumped on an initial bus that ran from Fresno to Yosemite followed by another that ran from Yosemite to Mammoth Lakes.  We were ultimately trying to get to Bishop where our van was parked, but more on that later. The travel itself wasn't bad... Continue Reading →

PCT: Day 102

We woke up dry this morning which was surprising considering last night's rain and the fact that we camped near a creek in a field. That combination usually leads to a lot of condensation, but we lucked out this time with a breeze that came in overnight. We packed up quickly and were on trail... Continue Reading →

PCT: Day 101

We wake up to an unfamiliar experience this morning. Clouds moved in overnight and rain started falling before we got up. We decided to wait it out since rain here usually moves through quickly. That wasn't the case today, and it rained until about 2pm with only a couple small breaks to trick us into... Continue Reading →

PCT: Day 100

It's hard to believe we've been at this for 100 days now.  The beginning of the trail feels like years ago, and even the start of the Sierra seems like the distant past.  We take our time getting up today, waiting for the sun to hit our campsite before we start to pack in earnest. ... PCT: Day 99

We spent the first half of today getting to trail and the second half hiking. We grab an early crowded bus, along with another 27 hikers, from Bishop to Independence and then hitch from there to the trailhead. We start the long slow climb up Kearsarge Pass, but the weather is nice and cool and... Continue Reading →

PCT: Days 93-98

We end up taking 5 days off in Portland to recharge and prepare for getting back on trail. The kids play with Logan and Madison and a revolving list of other friends and thoroughly enjoy the time off. Our dog Kaia was very happy to see us for the first time in three months and... PCT: Day 92

We get up early and walk to the bus stop to get to Quincy where we'll then catch a bus to Chester and another to Redding. The bus schedules don't quite align, but the first driver contacts the second driver to let her know we're coming, and she waits for us before departing. The ride... Continue Reading →

PCT: Day 91

We think we have a plan.  It's supposed to rain most of today so we book another night and take a zero.  The plan is to take a couple busses tomorrow to Chester to then rejoin the trail and head north through the burn scar from last year's Dixie Fire.  It won't be the best... Continue Reading →
