Monterey Aquarium

Our main goal today was to visit the Monterey Aquarium.  Gavin has a passion for animals and learning about new animals, and he came up with a list of zoos and aquariums he wants to visit.  The Monterey Aquarium is on his list.  While researching the trip, Angela came across a program aimed at Gavin’s age, which allows children to scuba dive in the protected tide pool at the aquarium.

We spent a couple of hours wandering the aquarium viewing jellyfish, sharks, stingrays, octopus, otters, and more fish than we could count.  After making it through maybe half of the aquarium, it was time for Gavin to get suited up for scuba diving.  He spent about 30 minutes in the water and got to see a monkey faced eel, decorator crab, and a few anemone.

We continued working the exhibits after Gavin’s scuba diving, but the aquarium had gotten very busy and crowded, even though it was a weekday.  We made it through the rest of the aquarium despite the crowds.  Some of our favorite animals were the deep sea isopods that we could touch, the moon jellyfish, and the octopus.

We headed back to the Daley’s house for a relaxing evening, great company, and a delicious home-cooked dinner.
