(Post title decided by the children, agreed to by the adults)
It’s been a while since we’ve posted, but we haven’t been idle. We spent 2 weeks in New Mexico in April visiting NPS sites and providing trail magic along the CDT. We also met up with the General and the Daleys while we were there.
We now find ourselves in California where I had a conference to attend in San Diego. Angela and the kids found cheap flights and met me there. Once the conference was over, we rented a car and headed out to the desert for me to finish the Socal miles I had left. Angela and the kids decided they had enough of the desert last year and will gladly lounge in a pool while I hike.
I started with an irritating 3 mile stretch I skipped last year between Mt. San Jacinto and I-10. It’s been a while since I got to hike in sand, into a 30mph headwind, while getting sandblasted but, you know, that’s how it goes sometimes.
I’ll head back out tomorrow to fill in a 36 mile gap from Kelso Valley Road (where Gareth had his never-ending nose bleed last year) to Walker Pass. After this stretch I’ll have completed all of Socal and almost all of the first 1400 miles of California. Angela and the kids will hangout in Ridgecrest for what will be the 3rd or 4th time in the last year. Somehow we can’t escape it.

Sounds like you are still having fun! Happy Memorial Day.
