Today was a nero in South Lake Tahoe. I woke up around 5:30 and was on trail by 6am. I only had 3 miles to cover to get to the highway to hitch into town. The trail was almost entirely downhill and would have been faster going had the 1st mile not been rocky and steep. My muscles also reminded me that I’ve ramped mileage, but on the bright side the knee pain I’ve dealt with the last few mornings is gone.
I get to the highway a little after 7am to find 6 other hikers already trying to hitch. Shortly after arriving another 3 came in behind me. The first group gave up after a while and called a cab. The rest of us stuck it out and finally got a ride after an hour. We got dropped of at a grocery store which was 5 miles from the hotel I was headed to. I was originally going to pick up a resupply here and zero a few days from now in Truckee, but decided to flip the order and sleep in town tonight. I was already planning on grabbing breakfast with General who was also in town when he offered the extra bed in his hotel. I quickly accepted.
I could have easily hitched the 5 miles to the hotel, but decided to walk and use the time to catch up with family. I got in around 10am and caught up with General until Aaron showed up with my resupply. The three of us then went to lunch before Aaron departed. The rest of the day was spent topping off the resupply, relaxing, and refueling. I’ll head back out tomorrow with a 100 mile stretch until my next resupply, and if all goes well a little over 200 miles to my next zero.
