This stretch of zeros started off with Christina driving our van to us and then recommending somewhere to camp. She rode with us while we headed to a couple campgrounds near Mammoth Lakes, eventually finding a site at the Lake George campground. We never would have found the site, let alone the campground, without Christina’s help. We booked the site and then drove back to Bishop to drop Christina off and do some shopping somewhere more affordable than Mammoth Lakes. We’ll be here for a few days since we have an upcoming AirBnB with friends that we’ve been looking forward to for months now.
We get back to our campsite in the evening and discuss what to do next. Blue Lizard’s knees are still sore even going down a flight of stairs, and getting back on trail soon isn’t an option for her. I’ll cover all of this in detail in a separate post, but the short story is we decide to part paths for now so Blue Lizard can rehab her knees with friends in Portland while I continue covering miles. The kids will go to Portland as well.
I planned on hiking a 2 day stretch from Devil’s Postpile to Tuolumne Meadows and was packed and ready to go, but in the end decided to stay for more family time since we won’t see each other as much over the next two months.
We hiked the next morning (Day 105) to TJ lake to fish, and then swam at Lake George on the way back. We were also testing out a knee brace for Blue Lizard, but unfortunately it wasn’t much of a help. Other than that we enjoyed an odd day of not having any real plans. I spent some time updating the blog and Blue Lizard enjoyed an afternoon nap. We finished the evening with a campfire and smores.
