PCT: Day 101

We wake up to an unfamiliar experience this morning. Clouds moved in overnight and rain started falling before we got up. We decided to wait it out since rain here usually moves through quickly. That wasn’t the case today, and it rained until about 2pm with only a couple small breaks to trick us into starting to pack. We took advantage of the breaks to pack up one tent and most of the gear. We then piled into the remaining tent and played games to kill time.

Once the rain stopped we went ahead and cooked dinner so we’d be able to hike into the evening with less interruptions. Trail conditions improved for the last couple miles to the Woods Creek junction which marked our way out. Blue Lizard’s knees were a little better, but downhill steps remained an issue. Woods Creek trail had some incredible scenery which made us feel better about taking it out.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t done with us for the day. We were hoping to make it 5 miles along Woods Creek to a campground, but thunderstorms moved in after 3 miles and we barely set up a single tent before the rain moved in. Our site was well sheltered so we avoided the worst of the quickly passing rain. We didn’t bother setting up the 2nd tent and all slept in the Triplex. While we didn’t make it as far as we wanted, we were only 12 miles from getting out tomorrow.
