PCT: Day 92

We get up early and walk to the bus stop to get to Quincy where we’ll then catch a bus to Chester and another to Redding. The bus schedules don’t quite align, but the first driver contacts the second driver to let her know we’re coming, and she waits for us before departing. The ride from Quincy to Chester passes through a lot of the Dixie Fire burn scar including the town of Greenville which was destroyed in the fire.

Once we get to Chester we try to book a rental car in Redding only to find they’re now sold out. We didn’t book last night because we weren’t sure we’d be able to get to Chester. We also learned that the bus from Chester to Redding was cancelled over a year ago. There aren’t any public transit options to get us closer, and we can’t get a hit on Uber. We do manage to book a rental car in Chico and now just have to get there.

We head to the main road through town and throw out our thumbs. Within 20 minutes we score a ride with a couple, Mike and Jordan, who just got married and are heading to take down the dance floor at their wedding venue. It’s only a few miles outside of Chico and they offer to take us all the way in. We stop by their wedding venue on the way and help pack up the dance floor, but also wander the grounds which are set in a beautiful little valley in the mountains. They then drive us the rest of the way and we pick up the rental car.

The rest of the day is an 8hr drive to Portland and Matt and Jessi’s house. We’re exhausted and are still trying to figure out where to go next, but are glad to be with friends in a relaxing, familiar environment.
