We think we have a plan. It’s supposed to rain most of today so we book another night and take a zero. The plan is to take a couple busses tomorrow to Chester to then rejoin the trail and head north through the burn scar from last year’s Dixie Fire. It won’t be the best scenery but will be snow free.
With a solid plan in place we forget about logistics for a while and head into town to get food for the day. We grab breakfast and ice cream while we’re at it. The rest of the day is spent relaxing in our room while it rains, sometimes heavily, throughout the afternoon. We check the weather in the evening and see that we’re in a flash flood warning, and more importantly, the burn we’ll be walking through tomorrow may have mudslides and landslides. None of us are in the mood to find washed out trail that would force another frustrating turn around and lost time so we move to plan C or maybe it’s plan D, I don’t know anymore.
We’ll stick with the busses to Chester but will then hitch to Redding where we can rent a car to drive to Portland to go visit our friends Matt and Jessi and their kids and recharge at their house. The kids especially are excited to see our dog and other kids again, and we could all use some time off from whatever this last week of scrambling has been.
We apparently took a combined 1 picture today, but it pretty well sums up the day.
