PCT: Day 47

We took a zero today at the LA RV Resort in Acton.  Blue Lizard hitched into town to do a little grocery shopping, but more importantly to ship our microspikes further up trail so we don’t carry needless weight through the upcoming desert.  General made it in today, and Mom Cut and Viking decided to zero as well.

The highlight of the day was trail magic from Buttons (Eric) and his family who we’d met weeks before at Whitewater Preserve.  He came out to meet us despite the fact that his wife had unplanned surgery just days before. He showed up with what was easily the best spread we’ve seen yet.  We started with In-N-Out  burgers, followed by all sorts of fruits and snacks.  We visited with Buttons and stuffed ourselves for a few hours while our kids and Button’s kids played. We had a great time and are so thankful to have met Buttons and his family and hope we’re lucky enough to meet up with them again.

We went to bed early with the plan to make an early start tomorrow to get to Agua Dulce for lunch at a Mexican restaurant.  The days have become noticeably hotter as we’ve dropped in elevation and and are approaching the warmer months. We’ve been spoiled by cooler mountain weather, but know that early morning and evening hiking are about to become the norm.  The kids, having taken to cowboy camping, setup in the middle of the campground on their own.
