PCT: Day 45

Today’s goal was to make it 15 miles to get to the next water source at a ranger station. This would also leave us a short day’s hike away from our next possible zero in Acton. The terrain itself wasn’t bad, but there was a lot of overgrowth to push through. The only thing to note, which we didn’t realize was important at the time, was a helicopter that flew by in the middle of the afternoon.

Once at the ranger station we refilled from the water cache maintained by one of the rangers. We ran into our 3rd rattlesnake of the trip which was yet another baby. We planned on cowboy camping that night, but the snake deterred half of our party. After setting up we realized condensation was setting in early and decided to setup both tents. It was a good thing we did as we’d wake up tomorrow morning in a cloud with water soaking the outside of the tents.
